Journal of Chinese Architecture and Urbanism (JCAU) is an international peer-reviewed academic journal which publishes original research articles, review articles, reports, viewpoints, book notes, and book reviews. The Journal presents new and original results of research, and provides a platform for discussion and debate relating to architectural heritage preservation, resilience and cultural sustainability of modern vernacular architecture in the Chinese context, as well as the cultural influence of Chinese architecture worldwide, past and present.


Aims & Scope

Journal of Chinese Architecture and Urbanism (JCAU) is an international peer-reviewed academic journal which publishes original research articles, review articles, reports, viewpoints, book notes, and book reviews. The Journal presents new and original results of research, and provides a platform for discussion and debate relating to architectural heritage preservation, resilience and cultural sustainability of modern vernacular architecture in the Chinese context, as well as the cultural influence of Chinese architecture worldwide, past and present.

Aims

  • To provide an international, peer-reviewed academic platform for publishing original research articles, review articles, reports, viewpoints, book notes, and book reviews in the field of Chinese architecture and urbanism.

  • To disseminate new and original research findings related to architectural heritage preservation, the resilience and cultural sustainability of modern vernacular architecture in the Chinese context.

  • To facilitate global discussion and debate on the cultural influence of Chinese architecture, both historically and in the present day, across international contexts.

  • To bridge research and practice in Chinese architectural heritage, vernacular architecture, and cross-cultural architectural studies, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among scholars, practitioners, and heritage professionals worldwide.

Scope

The journal covers a wide range of topics centered on Chinese architecture and urbanism, with a focus on heritage, vernacular architecture, and cross-cultural influence, including but not limited to:

Architectural Heritage Preservation

  • Conservation and restoration of historical Chinese architectural heritage
  • Theoretical and practical studies on heritage protection policies, legal frameworks, and sustainable conservation practices in China.

JCAU welcomes original research articles, review articles, reports, viewpoints, book notes, and book reviews that present new and original research findings, and foster global discussion and debate on the past, present, and future of Chinese architecture and urbanism. All manuscripts undergo rigorous peer review to ensure academic quality, originality, and relevance to the journal’s scope.
